A Closet Full of Dog Clothes

September 23rd, 2009 Author: admin

I have a lot of dog clothes.  Ever since I became a dog mom to 3 small breed dogs I have acquired a tremendous amount of dog clothes and accessories.  In fact, most of the time my dogs are dressed better than I am.   I have designer dog dresses, custom dog dresses, dog sweaters, coats, Halloween costumes,  shoes,  a collection of collars and harnesses as well as bows to match every outfit  my Maltese has.

It quickly became evident there was not enough room in my closet for all of my clothes as well as the dog clothes so I did what any crazy dog clothes obsessed person would do.  I gave them a closet of their own.  And a “dresser”.  And a jewelry box.

At the time these pictures were taken I had just created my customized closet system.  We have since outgrown it and I am working on creating additional storage solutions.

What’s in your dog’s closet and how do you store their clothes?

Fall Shopping Has Gone To The Dogs

September 8th, 2009 Author: admin

I love the fall.  I always have.  Since I was a child I loved going back to school shopping and buying new sweaters and jeans and shoes.  There is something about buying new clothes for winter that has always excited me.  Now that I’m all grown up my love for the season is now expressed through my dog’s clothing.   I wait on pins and needles to see the latest coats, dresses, and hoodies designed to keep my small dogs warm and dressed in the most fashion forward apparel. Who cares about me I want my dogs dressed to the nines and looking cool.  No one looks at me when I’m with my dogs anyway.

At this time of year all my favorite designers unveil new styles to be purchased by enthusiastic small dog owners like myself.   The pages of dog magazines are filled with advertisements for everything from Halloween Costumes to new outfits for Christmas Day the choices are overwhelming and it’s impossible not to want to buy one of everything.

Not only are the dog clothing choices overwhelming but the pet industry also introduces new toys, healthy dog foods,  treats, carriers,  grooming products  and all kinds of other necessities that small dog owners and their dogs require.  Thus begins the shopping frenzy that builds non-stop until Christmas Holiday.  When it comes to spoiling my dogs and keeping them fashion forward – there is  no recession that will stop me – and apparently millions of other small dog owners.

Dog Safety : Sago Palm Toxic For Dogs

July 23rd, 2009 Author: admin

Pet Saftey is a priority for dog lovers like me and I always want to share information regarding issues that could cause health problems.   Please read the article below.

Recently the home improvement stores have stocked their shelves with a
plant called the “Sago Palm”. This is a decorative houseplant that you
may be tempted to purchase.

If your pets ingest ANY part of this plant it will cause liver failure.
Even with agressive veterinary treatment 70% of these pets will die. We
implore you to keep your household free of this plant. We are
devastated when we are unable to help your pets.

Tear Stain Problems

July 4th, 2009 Author: admin

Two of my three dogs are white.  What this means is that I’m always looking for a better tear stain solution.  Currently one of the many things I do to minimize tear stains is giving my dogs purified drinking water.  Not spring water but bottled purified water and yes it does help. It’s also safer than keeping my dogs on low dose antibiotics found in products like Angels Eyes.

This week Aquafina was on sale so I brought a case home.   Aquafina has now started using bottles made with 50% less plastic. They call it the ECO-FINA bottle and I wonder if they tested it.  The bottle is very thin and responds to pressure much like a plastic bag with screw top.  When you hold the bottle firmly and unscrew the cap the water comes up and overflows the bottle making a huge a mess.

I applaud Aquafina’s attempt at an eco friendly bottle however now they are wasting my expensive purified water.

Dog Puzzles – Not So Easy For Cats

Dog Puzzles – Not So Easy For Cats

I recently purchased these great new interactive puzzles for dogs that are meant to enrich our dogs lives – Nina Ottoson dog puzzles.  They are great and my dogs love them.  The dogs even pester me to get the puzzles out sometimes when they are a bit bored.    My smartest dog had the puzzle figured out in less than 30 seconds.  The not-so-smartest dog took about 3 minutes.

In the literature for the puzzles it says they are great for cats  as well.  So, I put my cats treats in the easiest puzzle  and showed him how it worked just like I did for the dogs. I worked with my cat  for 10 minutes with no success – and finally put the game on the table hoping maybe he would wander over and try it.  It’s been two hours and he just ignores it even though it smells of his favorite treats.

Some would say that the cat just doesn’t want the treats that bad and he’s just being a cat. I disagree, I have seen my cat knock everything off of a table including the jar of treats to try to get one of these treats – he loves them!  Maybe I just have a really dumb cat, gorgeous and sweet but not so smart. Does anyone have a cat that can do dog puzzles?
